And what might possibly become a cause of concern for Panipat is the depiction of Ahmad Shah Abdali in the film. Former Afghanistan ambassador to India Dr Shaida Abdali took to Twitter to express his worries about the film. Panipat is based on the Third Battle of Panipat. The battle took place between Afghanistan’s king Ahmad Shah Abdali and the Maratha empire on January 14, 1761 at Panipat and lasted for several days. Ahmad Shah Abdali defeated the Maratha warriors and slaughtered 40,000 Maratha prisoners in cold blood the day after the battle. The third Battle of Panipat is one of the most significant ones ever fought in the history of India. In Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat, Sanjay Dutt is shown as a fearsome and ruthless Ahmad Shah Abdali in the film Panipat, the first trailer of which was recently released. Showing concern over Ahmad Shah Abdali’s portrayal in Panipat, Afghanistan’s former ambassador to India Dr Shaida Abdali wrote as response to Sanjay Dutt’s tweet, "Dear @duttsanjay Ji: Historically, the Indian cinema has been extremely instrumental in strengthening the Indo-Afghan ties – I very much hope that the film "Panipat" has kept that fact in mind while dealing with this important episode of our shared history!" Dr Shaida Abdali ✔ @ShaidaAbdali Dear @duttsanjay Ji: Historically, the Indian cinema has been extremely instrumental in strengthening the Indo-Afghan ties – I very much hope that the film “Panipat” has kept that fact in mind while dealing with this important episode of our shared history! https://twitter.com/duttsanjay/status/1191210862519947264 … Sanjay Dutt ✔ @duttsanjay Ahmad Shah Abdali – Death strikes where his shadow falls. Panipat trailer out tomorrow. #PanipatLook@arjunk26 @kritisanon @AshGowariker #SunitaGowariker @RohitShelatkar @ckmurali_dop #NitinDesai @neeta_lulla @KolhapureP @Mohnish_Bahl #ZeenatAman View image on Twitter 486 9:59 PM – Nov 4, 2019 Twitter Ads info and privacy 187 people are talking about this Current Afghan Ambassador to India Tahir Qadiri talked about the same to Afghanistan news agency Pajhwok Afghan News, and said, "We are in contact with Indian officials and have shared Afghans’ concern with them." Ajmal Alamzai, cultural attaché at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi said that they got to know about the film two years ago. "We have emailed the film director to share the scenario with us but he didn’t. We have tried several times to contact the director, but failed," he said. The Afghan officials’ concern is over the portrayal of Ahmad Shah Abdali. Afghanistan and India share cordial ties in the current day and the depiction of Abdali in an insensitive manner might have an effect on that, is what seems to have worried Shaida Abdali. In last year’s Padmaavat, for example, the manner in which Alauddin Khilji was portrayed, left many historians aghast. Going by the trailer of Panipat, we seem to be looking at a re-run of the same. Arjun Kapoor is playing the role of the Maratha warrior, Sadashiv Rao Bhau in Panipat and Kriti Sanon is portraying the role of Parvati Bai, Sadashiv’s wife. In the trailer of Panipat, Sadashiv Rao Bhau is seen bravely fighting Ahmad Shah Abdali in the battlefield. The trailer, however, doesn’t make it clear who won the Third Battle Of Panipat."
